When you have a burst pipe the first thing you need to do is follow this burst pipes checklist:

• If a pipe bursts: turn the water off at the mains immediately and drain the system by turning on all cold water taps. Its a good idea to familiarise yourself with the location of the shutoff valve so that you can go straight there with no delays in the event of an emergency.
• Call immediately to get one of our plumbers dispatched to your home or office quickly.
• If possible keep rooms heated and allow warm air to circulate. Leave windows open so that moist air can escape.
• Dry out carpets and soft furnishings but only lift fitted carpets if absolutely necessary, otherwise shrinkage may occur.
• Notify your insurer – you may be entitled to compensation under your homeowners insurance.
